Gardai have issued a warning regarding “dud ten euro notes” that were discovered in circulation in Kells.

The Meath Crime Prevention unit posted the warning on their Facebook page alongside images of some of the counterfeit money.

“For anyone in business beware of dud notes in circulation,” they wrote. “Today dud ten euro notes were in circulation this afternoon in Kells.

“Worth doing a talk with all staff and making them aware of what procedure shops have in place to deal with dud notes. They are not legal tender. Please report any incidents to your local station.”

The Garda Press Office said they were not aware of any further reports of similar incidents outside the one highlighted in Meath but encouraged anyone who may have been a victim of counterfeit €10 notes to report it to their local Garda station.
