Gardaí are investigating a “nightmare” fire that damaged an Offaly farm on Friday night.

The blaze broke out on a property in the Clonbullogue area of Co. Offaly in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that two farm buildings were “extensively damaged” by the fire and said that a technical and forensic examination was carried out at the scene.

No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the farm’s owner has taken to social media to appeal for witnesses to the incident or any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

She described the fire as “evil” and revealed it began after the Late Late Toy Show finished airing late Friday night.

In a Facebook post, she said: “This time yesterday we woke up to a nightmare because evil had visited our yard.

“To every single person who helped, contacted us, fed us and the Gardai, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

“If anyone has seen anything suspicious locally, no matter how insignificant you think it is, particularly between Clonbullogue and Bracknagh in the past while, especially the last week, please contact us or Edenderry or Tullamore Gardaí.

“Friday night was Toy Show night, if you were working early or late or collecting kids or teenagers and on the road and saw something unusual, or if anyone has dash cam or camera footage, it could help.”
