Meath burglary Gardaí investigate after man impersonating detective robs elderly woman

Gardaí are investigating after a man pretending to be a detective stole money from an elderly woman at her home.

The burglary took place in the Mahonstown area of Kells, Co. Meath on Tuesday morning just before 9am.

A man pretended to be a Garda Detective and called to the home of an elderly lady before entering the house.

He then took cash from her bedroom and left.

A garda spokesperson said: “The Gardaí at Kells are investigating a burglary which occurred in the Mahonstown area of Kells this morning at around 8.50am.

“A male called to the home of an elderly lady impersonating a Detective. He proceeded to enter her home, took cash from her bedroom and then left the house.

“If anyone was in the area at the time and noticed anyone acting suspiciously, please contact Kells Garda Station on 046 9280820 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.”
