Gardai in Tralee are hunting a woman who threatened staff at a garage in Rathass with a gun.

The female entered Kelliher’s garage at approximately 9pm on June 27 and approached staff.

She said she had a gun and would use it if they did not hand over cigarettes.

Garda Julieanne Kelly says it was a frightening experience for staff, and told Radio Kerry that they are looking for witnesses.

“A female informed counter staff that she was armed with a gun and would use it if they did not hand over cigarettes,” Garda Kelly said.

“The member of staff feared for their safety and handed over cigarettes.

The female offender then left the scene without producing any gun.

“But this was obviously a frightening event for the staff of Kelliher’s garage and I'm just appealing to any listeners who were in the vicinity, particularly Kelliher’s garage who witnessed the event to contact ourselves here in Tralee Garda Station.”

The Garda Press Office confirmed they were investigating a robbery which occurred at a retail premises in Rathass, Tralee, Co Kerry on the day in question.

“No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made,” gardai said. “Investigations are ongoing.”
