Gardai in Co Donegal are investigating a bizarre attack in which a motorist parked at a junction was punched in the face by a passer-by in broad daylight.

The man was sitting at the junction between Causeway Road and Cockhill Road in Buncrana at 10.30am when he was suddenly set-upon out of the blue.

The attacker, whom the victim did not know, fled on foot.

The victim was rushed for medical treatment following the unprovoked morning attack.

However, Gardai say his injuries are not life-threatening.

Garda Sgt Charlene Anderson appealed for anybody who may have witnessed the attack to contact Gardai.

She asked anybody who may have dashcam footage of the incident are asked to contact Gardai also.

"If they cannot download the dashcam footage then they can bring it to us and we will sort it.

"This was a very serious incident and we are appealing for anybody who may have witnessed it or witnessed anybody in the area leading up to the attack," she said.
