Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an alleged assault in Kilkenny over the weekend.

The incident took place on Castle Road in Kilkenny city at approximately 1.30am on Sunday, 6th March when a man was attacked while walking home with a friend.

He was punched in the face twice by another man, leaving him with minor swelling and bleeding, according to KCLR.

Local garda Joe Reville told the station that the victim was “randomly assaulted” near a taxi rank on Castle Road and appealed to any taxi drivers who were in the area at the time to check their dash-cam footage.

“We’re hoping that maybe any of the taxi drivers that may be listening might have dashcam, they might have seen it or anyone that can assist us, maybe witnessed it or maybe can identify the suspect as well, we’d be grateful if they’d give the information to Kilkenny garda station,” he said.

No arrests have been made in relation to the assault.

Investigations are ongoing.
