An Bust Garda dog helps find €38,000 of drugs hidden in parcels from UK and Spain

Garda dog Bailey helped to find a host of illegal drugs, including ketamine and cocaine, alongside the help of Revenue officers.

Bailey, a drug detector dog, was assisting the officers at Athlone Mail Centre with routine operations and together they seized almost 1.8kgs of illegal drugs on Monday.

They discovered herbal cannabis, ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine and 300 Diazepam tablets. All together, the illegal drugs are estimated to have a combined worth of almost €38,000.

The drugs were found in parcels which came from the UK and Spain. The parcels were set to be delivered to several addresses across the country, and were declared as items such as “eye creams” and “skin primer”.

The seizure of these drugs is part of Revenue’s ongoing operation to target drug smuggling. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling they can contact Revenue in confidence on freephone number 1800 295 295.

According to Gardaí, investigations into the drugs found on Monday remain ongoing.
