This is gangland thug Bernard Fogarty being dramatically arrested by armed gardai earlier this year days before they caught him with a submachine gun.

Fogarty (32) with an address at Hole in the Wall Road, Donaghmede, had been a top target of gardai in north Dublin and is due to be sentenced at the Special Criminal Court on Monday after being caught with the lethal weapon in March.

Our pictures show Fogarty being arrested in a dramatic "hard stop" in Dublin days earlier.

He was dragged from his vehicle by armed cops after they blocked it in front of shocked motorists.

He subsequently had to be hospitalised after the incident.

Then on March 7, gardai caught Fogarty in possession of RAK PM63 - a Polish 9x18mm submachine gun - on Hole in the Wall Road.

He has pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of the firearm in suspicious circumstances and is due to be sentenced tomorrow.

Fogarty appeared at the Special Criminal Court last month in relation to the firearm charge and replied: "guilty," when the charge was read out to him.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt adjourned the case to Monday to allow for a prison governor's report and urine analysis report to be completed.

Fogarty is well-known for posting rants on social media about a pair of criminal brothers who were formerly his pals.

He posted one such video last April after a property he owns was targeted in a fire attack.

The property in Coolock was being rented out to an innocent family member with no involvement in crime.

Significant damage was caused to the house and Fogarty visited the scene.

Fogarty posted a number of videos yelling and screaming with frustration after the incident.

He has posted other videos where he laughs hysterically and taunts his former pals.
