A concerned father has told of how a gang stole his teenage son’s €600 jacket off his back in broad daylight.

The incident took place at around 1pm on Tuesday as the 16-year-old walked through Drumcondra in north Dublin.

Speaking on Liveline, Eoin O’Neill explained that a group of boys forced his son to give up his brand-new Canada Goose jacket with his phone inside.

He said: “He was walking home yesterday from town at lunch time and two young fellas came out of a lane and said, ‘Give me your jacket.’

“They called over to him and he wandered over, he wasn’t thinking. They had scarves that they pulled up over their faces so he couldn’t see their faces.

“This was at one o’clock in the day in a place called Millmount Avenue, just past Fagan’s pub in Drumcondra.

“They took the jacket off him. He worked the whole of December for it and they took his phone, but they gave that back because it was old.”

Eoin said that his son had spent half his wages from working in Dunnes Stores over the Christmas period on the expensive jacket.

He said: “He earned his money and got paid about €1,200 for his wages. He treated himself and came home at Christmas with a fancy bag and took a Canada Goose jacket out. He paid about €600 for the jacket.”

He said that gardaí were doing all that they could to help, but added that his son is pretty shaken after the incident.

“He got a fright. He got a shock. His whole six weeks of slaving away was gone in broad daylight.

“The guards came down and were helpful. My wife reported it. The guards said there could be CCTV at one of the [corner] shops.”
