Revenue officers seized more than €1.2 million worth of drugs at Dublin Port yesterday following routine checks.

As part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs, officers searched a commercial vehicle which had disembarked a ferry from Holyhead.

With the assistance of the Revenue's 'detector' dog, James, and a mobile X-ray scanner, they discovered and seized 55kgs of herbal cannabis.

They also seized 2kgs of cannabis infused ‘jelly sweets’ concealed in suitcases stored in the vehicle at Dublin Port.

The illegal drugs had an estimated street value of €1.2 million.

A man in his 50s has been arrested by An Garda Síochána and investigations remain ongoing.

If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.
