Detectives seized almost €400,000 in cash after intercepting a car during a suspected money handover in the capital.

The operation was carried out by members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) in the Beaumont area last night.

Two men, described as “gillies”, were arrested and are being held at separate Dublin garda stations.

As part of an ongoing investigation gardaí intercepted a vehicle at around 9pm before a nearby property was also searched.

Around €379,000 in notes was recovered following the suspected cash handover.

Two men, aged 43 and 37, were arrested in relation to the seizure and are being held at Clontarf and Ballymun garda stations.

They are being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 and can be detained for up to seven days.

One of the men has been described as previously operating under the radar while the other suspect in custody has been arrested for drug dealing in the past.

The cash bust is separate to another significant seizure made in the capital yesterday.

Members of the GNDOCB, supported by the Special Crime Task Force, recovered €2.2m worth of cannabis yesterday.

A further €150,000 in cash was also seized as part of an operation targeting a Tallaght based drugs gang.

A number of vehicles were stopped and searched in the city centre and the Tallaght area which led to the haul being recovered.
