Community in ‘shock and sadness’ as man (27) stabbed to death and another (75) injured

The community in Carrigaline is in “shock and sadness” as a 27-year-old man was stabbed to death.
Another 75-year-old man is in a stable condition in Cork University Hospital with serious stab wounds.
The incident occurred in a housing estate in Carrigaline in the early hours of this morning.

Fianna Fail councillor Seamus McGrath told sundayworld.com that the community are experiencing “overwhelming sadness and shock.”

“The community woke up to the news and there's an overwhelming feeling of sadness and shock.”
“It’s a very settled area where they live. It's very quiet and settled so it's the last thing you would expect,” he said.
“Our thoughts are with the man in hospital; he's a very well known man in the local area. He’s a long term resident who’s well liked.
“Our thoughts are with his extended family too.”
A third man (42) has been arrested in connection with the attack and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Gurranabraher Garda Station
The fatal stabbing happened at Sea View Avenue at approximately 3.30am in the early hours of Saturday morning.
When emergency services responded to the scene the deceased man was discovered with serious stab wounds, but despite attempts to save his life he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body remains at the scene of the murder and the is currently preserved.
The State Pathologist has been notified, and an examination of the scene will be carried out before his body is removed for a post-mortem examination.
Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the areas of Carriagaline and Passage West in the early hours of this morning, who may have noticed any activity which caught their attention or can assist Gardaí to contact them at Togher Garda station on 021 4947120, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
