A 16-year-old boy has been charged in relation to the assault of another teenager in Co. Cork at the weekend.

The incident took place late Saturday night, 18th December, on Main Street in Carrigaline when gardaí were alerted to a series of disturbances on the public street. Videos of the attack were widely circulated online.

One teenage boy (16) was assaulted by a group of youths at the scene, who managed to flee and return home, where he was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

He has since been released from hospital.

In the course of making an arrest at the scene, three members of An Garda Síochána were “obstructed both physically and verbally” during the incident.

The three female officers reportedly suffered sprains, stiffness ,and soreness in the attack. They didn’t require hospital treatment but all three are now out of work.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that a 16-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and has since been charged. He is scheduled to appear before Cork District Court (Court 1) this morning, 22nd December 2021.

Investigations are ongoing.
