A body-building beast who attacked two women, one of whom he threatened to rape and kill, is back on the streets after serving just 21 months in prison.

Predator body-builder Raymond Stewart declined to speak with our reporter on Friday morning as he was released from the Midlands Prison.

The former gym instructor and bouncer was collected by a Galway-registered taxi.

Our exclusive pictures show Stewart, who represented Ireland at weightlifting competitions abroad, leaving the prison and then throwing his hands up in triumph in the back of the taxi as he was driven away.

In March of 2018, the brute was sentenced to four years in prison for threatening to rape and kill a woman he met in a nightclub.

Now 33, Stewart, of Drumaveg, Moycullen, threw the woman to the ground in a laneway in the early hours of the morning and told her he was going to rape her and kill her afterwards.

The Central Criminal Court heard the woman had earlier gone to Stewart's house believing friends would be there. She left the house, which was in the city, on discovering there was no party.

Stewart followed her as she tried to leave the area, repeatedly kicking and pushing her.

He grabbed her at the laneway and threw her down, before Stewart's then housemate came "out of the blue" and dragged him off.

She thanked this man in her victim impact statement, saying she believed he had saved her that night. Stewart pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to making a threat to kill and sexually assault the woman at Sandy Road, Galway, on July 18, 2016.

At the time, Stewart, who has nine previous convictions, was already serving a two-year sentence for the assault causing harm and false imprisonment of another woman in February 2017. He also has a conviction for the assault of a former partner, as well as public order offences.

Giollaíosa Ó Lideadha, Senior Defence Counsel, handed a letter from Stewart into court in which his client said he took full responsibility for his actions that night and said he was deeply ashamed and embarrassed by what he had done.

Justice Paul Butler said Stewart had a difficulty with violence towards women which had not been properly addressed. He imposed concurrent sentences totalling four years, giving credit for time Stewart has spent in custody.

The previous month, February of 2018, Stewart was jailed for a period of two years over a separate incident in which he pinned a woman face-down on his bed and violently assaulted her as she struggled to get free from his grip.

Stewart pleaded guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court to assaulting the young woman, causing injuries to her back, neck, shoulder, hip, arms and a laceration to her upper lip at his rented accommodation in Galway on February 11, 2017.

He also pleaded guilty to a second charge of falsely imprisoning her against her will.

The court heard the victim; her boyfriend and a male friend were socialising in the Four Aces Casino earlier that night and met Stewart outside afterwards.

They didn't know him but he invited them back to his house for a party.

He gave them drink at his house. The woman's next recollection was waking up face-down on a bed in an upstairs bedroom. Stewart was on top of her.

She said he covered her mouth with his left hand and his right hand was "ripping" at her.

She had trouble breathing but she began to struggle with him, managing to pinch his neck with one free hand while trying to break free. She said the straps on the top she was wearing broke in the struggle and her breasts were exposed.

The struggle went on for a long time and he kept telling her to 'stop'.

She kept pinching and screaming at him and he eventually let her go, she said.

She ran downstairs and found her boyfriend outside the property, wandering in a disorientated state. They went to the garda station that morning to report the incident.

She attended the sexual assault unit and photographs were taken of extensive bruising to several areas on her body.

Stewart expressed remorse for his actions. Judge Rory McCabe imposed two years on the two charges to run concurrently.
