huge haul Armed gardaí in CAB-led raids on drug ring kingpin

Close

Four properties have been raided by heavily armed gardaí as part of an investigation into a man suspected of running a drugs network across three counties.

A house in Carlow as well as three Dublin-based businesses, including a solicitor's firm, were searched yesterday morning during the operation by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB).

Members of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) were also called in to assist the search of the private house.

Around €5,800 worth of cash was seized along with small quantities of cocaine and cannabis during the searches.

Gardaí also seized designer clothing, including Canada Goose jackets and a Louis Vuitton bag, as well as mobile phones and financial documentation.

Probe

The documents will now be forensically examined as part of the CAB probe.

The investigation is focused on a man suspected of supplying drugs across Carlow, Wicklow and north Kildare.

A garda spokesman said the operation involved CAB, who were assisted by the ERU and "local gardaí attached to the Carlow district".

A day earlier CAB froze €150,000 in a bank account being used by a company allegedly involved in the illegal manufacture of drugs in the US.

The account had been identified by the FBI as being used to transfer money from the US, before being sent on to a separate account in another country.

That same day CAB froze €110,000 in a bank account linked to a burglary gang based between south Dublin and north Wicklow.

The Herald previously revealed how the gang, linked to two prolific burglars who attacked pensioner Eva Sutton in her home in 2015, were targeted by CAB last month.

A total of €358,000 has now been frozen in bank accounts connected to the mob, who have been linked to rural burglaries nationwide.

Cars, cash and designer clothing were also seized during a series of searches last month.
