Hundreds of animal lovers have taken to social media to applaud the gardai after they rescued 18 dogs and three cats within the Tipperary Garda district.

Clonmel gardaí and detectives from Clonmel Garda Station, along with ISPCA Inspectors, carried out a planned operation that was aimed at targeting serious breaches of the Animal Health and Welfare Act, 2013.

In a post on the An Garda Síochána Tipperary Facebook page, gardai said that all the animals have now been taken into the proper care of the ISPCA.

"Breeds include Chihuahuas, Pugs, Bichon Frise and Terriers, some of which appear to be in pup,” gardai posted.

“The seizure was made shortly after 11am and one male was arrested by gardaí at the scene for obstructing the search.”

People left hundreds of replies, expressing their shock while showing appreciation for the rescuers.
