Gardaí have seized approximately €1,430,400 worth of herbal cannabis during a warehouse search in Glasnevin.

Gardaí say that 71.52 kgs of the drug was seized during the operation today.

One 40-year-old man was arrested in relation to drug trafficking offences and is currently detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

The Garda Info Twitter account said: "Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau & Revenue Customs Service seize Herbal Cannabis with an estimated value of €1,430,400 (analysis pending) during searches at a warehouse in Glasnevin, Dublin.

"One man has been arrested & detained under Drugs Trafficking legislation."

The seizure comes after last week's launch of a major new operation aimed at “protecting communities from the scourge of illegal drugs”.

Operation Tara will see hundreds of gardai assigned to Divisional Drug Units across every Garda Division in the country take on individuals and groups involved in the drug trade “at all levels”.

The stated aim of Operation Tara is to “disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs".
