'nuisance' Woman with 122 previous convictions jailed for abusing gardaí on St Patrick's Day

A public order "nuisance" who shouted "rude names" at gardaí and aggressively clenched her fists in a St Patrick's Day disturbance has been jailed for two months.

Vicky Judge (52) was sentenced after a court heard she had 122 previous convictions.

Judge Gerard Jones said that while he had "sympathy" for the accused, the general public had to be protected from her behaviour.

Judge, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour along with other public order offences.

Garda Sergeant Máire McDevitt told Dublin District Court Judge was screaming and shouting and acting in an aggressive and threatening manner at Gloucester Place in the north inner city.

She was "calling gardaí rude names" and using a number of expletives, she said.

Judge became more irate and shouted loudly at the gardaí when they told her to stop. She was highly intoxicated, her speech was slurred, she clenched her fists and attempted to evade arrest.

On December 13 last year, the accused threatened to fight members of the public at Conyngham Road, Dublin 8.

She was arrested after gardaí heard her using expletives and calling people names such as "tramp".

The accused's prior convictions included public order and theft offences.

Judge had an alcohol difficulty for most of her adult life, was vulnerable and on disability allowance, her solicitor Tony Collier said.

The charges before the court were a "nuisance to the public and society", Mr Collier said.
