Woman (40s) charged following the discovery of Mary Bergin's body at her home in Seville Place

Gardaí have charged the woman, aged in her 40s, who was arrested on Wednesday 13th April 2022 following the discovery of the body of a woman at a residence in Seville Place, Dublin 1.

She is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning, Friday 15th April 2022 at 10.30am.

Ms Bergin was found dead at a house on Seville Place at around 11.50am last Tuesday.

A post-mortem was carried out earlier this week.

Gardaí were alerted to the tragedy when the female suspect was observed acting in an an "agitated state" by people in the locality.

The suspect was not previously known to gardaí.

A local woman told the Sunday World she was shocked to hear the sad news.

"To hear something like this happen to a woman in her 80s is terrible," she said.

Mary, also known as Maura, was known for being very involved with the church and was a great help in the community.

Another local was quoted as describing Ms Bergin as “an angel”.

Gardai have said they are continuing to "investigate all the circumstances" following the murder and have appealed for witnesses who might be able to help their investigation.

“Gardaí attended the scene of the incident at approximately 11,50am,” they said.

“A woman, aged in her 80s, was located deceased inside the property with fatal injuries.
