Warrant issued for killer rapist Ian Horgan after failing to turn up in court for Tinder charge

Last week a bench warrant was issued at a district court sitting in Macroom Co Cork for Horgan for the second time after previously being accused of breaching his bail conditions.

He is charged with signing onto Tinder under the name ‘Cian’ in May last year just a few months after his latest release from prison.

Horgan was previously convicted of the manslaughter and rape of beautician Rachel Kiely, which he carried out when he was just 16 in 2000 and served 10 years in prison.

A solicitor for Ian Horgan, told the court at the latest hearing he had not heard from his client and was unaware of his whereabouts.

Judge James McNulty then ordered another bench warrant for Horgan’s arrest.

A bench warrant was previously issued last October when Horgan failed to appear at the same court in Co Cork.

At that time Judge McNulty was told that Horgan had breached his bail on three different occasions since the last court sitting.

These breaches included not being at home when gardaí called to his home on September 20th, while on another occasion he was 20 minutes late to sign at a garda station.

The court also heard that, on October 7th 2021, Horgan contacted Macroom Garda Station to say that he was unable to sign on at the station as his girlfriend was having a medical emergency.

Gardaí later checked and found that she was not in hospital.

It was heard at the court sitting in November that gardai had been told by Tinder any records about Horgan’s on-line registration would have to be requested through the Office of International Affairs in the US Department of Justice.

Last December Horgan appeared not to have a care in the world when seen as he went to sign on at a Limerick garda station with his devoted girlfriend Teresa O'Neill.

Despite facing prison again for allegedly registering on a dating app under a fake name, the 37-year-old was all smiles.

Horgan, who was released from the Midlands Prison early last year after serving time for a robbery, still has a suspended part of his sentence hanging over him.

Despite the Tinder allegation, Teresa O'Neill, sister of infamous Cratloe Wood rapist Thomas O'Neill, has stuck by her man, who she welcomed with hug as he emerged from prison in February last year.

Horgan has denied a breach of the Sex Offenders Act 2001, after failing to notify gardai of the name that he was using on the app.

The 37-year-old has claimed the use of the name Cian was a simple typo.
