'Very intelligent' woman jailed for six months after throwing pot noodles at garda

Natalie Redmond (33) was jailed for six months when she appeared in Dublin District Court.

Redmond, with an address at Ellis Quay, Dublin 7, pleaded guilty to public order offences.

The court heard a garda was on duty at Aston Quay at 9.30pm on May 13, 2020 when he directed the accused to move on.

She threw a container of pot noodles at the garda while hurling abusive language at him, Sergeant Michelle Lynch told the court.

Redmond also attempted to pull a garda away from a man he was trying to deal with. She was highly intoxicated and subsequently arrested.

On April 5, 2021, Redmond was at the Luas stop on Abbey Street when she shouted abuse at members of the public and stumbled onto the track, which was a significant drop.

There was white foam coming from her mouth, she was swaying on her feet and shouting abuse at gardaí. Redmond refused to get into the patrol van, kicking out at gardaí.

She also became extremely violent while being searched at Mountjoy garda station.

Redmond had 105 previous convictions and was in custody when she appeared in court.

She was of above average IQ, very intelligent and capable with the right structures around her, defence solicitor Daniel Hanahoe said.
