Two men are due to appear before Athlone District Court this morning after they were charged with an armed robbery in Ferbane, Co Offaly on Monday morning. 

The two men, who are aged 26 and 19, were arrested in Galway yesterday following the raid on a convenience store that took place at approximately 6.40am.

Three men had entered the premises and forced the two female staff members to hand over a quantity of cigarettes, alcohol and cash before fleeing the scene in a dark coloured vehicle.

Despite their ordeal neither staff member required medical attention after the incident.

Gardai said yesterday that in follow up searches, three men (aged 19, 20 and 26) were arrested in Galway and detained under Section 50 Criminal Justice Act, 2007 in Garda stations across the midlands of the country.

This morning gardai said two of the men have been charged in relation to the incident and are due to appear before Athlone District Court this morning Wednesday, November 17) at 10.30am.

“The third man (20) remains in Garda custody detained under Section 50 Criminal Justice Act, 2007,” gardai said. “Investigations are ongoing.”
