Circuit Criminal Court Two charged over seizure of sawn-off Beretta shotgun and cartridges sent forward for trial

TWO men charged over the seizure of a sawn-off Beretta shotgun and six shotgun cartridges in suspicious circumstances in a north County Dublin town have been sent forward to face trial in the Circuit Criminal Court.

Thomas McDonagh (35), from Oldcastle Drive in Clondalkin, Dublin and William Ward of Owendoher Haven, Ballyboden in Dublin have also been sent forward to the circuit court for sentencing on a signed guilty plea, should that arise.

The men were arrested and charged with two offences under the Firearms Act for possessing the shotgun and six shotgun cartridges in suspicious circumstances at Pinewood Green in Balbriggan on Friday, September 25, 2020.

The court previously heard gardai from Balbriggan Detective Unit, as part of Operation Stratus in Drogheda, discovered the firearm and shotgun cartridges in a car on the day after they attempted to stop the vehicle in the Pinewood Green area of Balbriggan.

Judge Dermot Dempsey sent the accused forward to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after a book of evidence was served on them at Balbriggan District Court.

Judge Dempsey gave the accused the formal alibi notice before sending them forward to the circuit court where they will make their next appearance in Court 5 at the Criminal Courts of Justice on July 1.

Bothbhave been remanded on bail subject to strict bail conditions and independent sureties.
