Two men have been charged after an aggravated burglary left a woman hospitalised in Co. Kildare this week.

The incident took place at a property on Henry Street in Newbridge, Co. Kildare shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

An ambulance was called and the woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to Tallaght University Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Gardaí rushed to the scene and arrested two men, who were detained at Newbridge Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

They have since been charged and appeared before Naas District Court this morning, Thursday 19th August.

Under Irish law, a person is guilty of aggravated burglary if they commit any burglary and at the time have with them any firearm or imitation firearm, any weapon of offence, or any explosive.

Speaking about the incident, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí have arrested and charged two men following an aggravated burglary at a property on Henry Street, Newbridge, shortly before 11:45pm on Tuesday 17th August 2021.

“A woman in her 40s was injured during the incident and was brought to Tallaght University Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

“The men both in their 20s were arrested at the scene and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Newbridge Garda station.

“They have since been charged and appeared before Naas District Court on the morning of Thursday, 19th August, 2021.”
