Topless drunk man is fined for calling women 'sluts' outside hotel

Blanchardstown District Court

A TOPLESS man was arrested for a drunken disturbance outside a hotel, where gardaí heard him calling a number of women "sluts".

Father-of-one Anthony Norman (34) pushed and shoved hotel staff and went on to soil a garda station cell after he was taken into custody. Judge Gerard Jones fined him €500 at Blanchardstown District Court.

Norman, of Elmcastle Close, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to public intoxication and threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour outside the Kingswood Hotel in Tallaght on May 27, 2019.

He also pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage at Clondalkin garda station on the same date.

Garda Sergeant Maria Callaghan told the court gardaí were called to the hotel where it was reported that a man was being abusive outside.

Gardaí found Norman standing in the car park, topless, clearly intoxicated and calling "a number of females in the area sluts", Sgt Callaghan said.

He was pushing and shoving staff from the hotel and was arrested and brought to the garda station, where he continued to be abusive and aggressive. He banged on the door of the cell he was placed in and defecated and urinated on the floor and bunk.

Norman, an apprentice electrician, had no memory of the night and apologised, his barrister Ciaran MacLoughlin said. Alcohol had been a "crutch" for him but he was now sober and doing well, the court heard.
