The son of murdered gangster ‘Fat’ Andy Connors was one of two men who appeared in court today charged over the ramming of a garda car in Meath.

The incident unfolded when Gardai attempted to stop a vehicle in Slane on Thursday but the car failed to stop and a “managed containment operation was carried out”.

During a pursuit a garda car was rammed gardaí before five men fled the scene on foot.

The garda Air Support Unit was called in and two suspects were arrested a short time later.

John Connors (27) from The Villa Blessington Road, Tallaght, Dublin appeared before a special sitting of Navan District Court charged with possession of a stolen Seat Leon Cupra car, driving without insurance or a driving licence and dangerous driving at Slane on June 17th.

He was also charged with trespass at Oldtown, Abbeyleix, Co Laois on June 15th.

He was granted free legal aid.

Connors and a second man Thomas Wall (26) from Fortunestown Crescent, Tallaght, Dublin were charged with alleged possession of burglary implements, including a sledgehammer, crowbar, wheel brace, bottles of bleach and three drums of petrol at Slane on the same date.

Wall was also charged with being in possession of other articles including bottles of bleach, three drums of petrol, siphoning hose with the intention that they would be used in the course of, or in connection with a burglary contrary to section 15 (1) and (5) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.

Wall did not apply for legal aid.

The two men were remanded to Cloverhill Prison where and will appear in court via videolink next Friday.

Connors' father 'Fat' Andy was murdered at The Ranch in Saggart, Co Dublin in 2014 when a masked gunman burst in and shot him dead in front of his wife and children.
