A MOTHER-of-four has been jailed for two months for stealing a bottle of wine from a supermarket.

Rita Cox (39) made no attempt to disguise herself and was "easily" identified on security footage, a court heard.

Cox, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stealing a €15 bottle of wine from Spar, Grand Canal Street Lower.

Dublin District Court heard the theft was reported last May 21.

A garda told Judge Brian O'Shea that Cox took the bottle at 8pm and passed all points of payment. She was seen on CCTV and charged.

The accused had previous convictions for theft and other offences.

A probation report was before the court, and defence solicitor Brian Coveney said it was accepted this was "not overly positive".

Cox had a history of mental health issues, Mr Coveney said.

Judge O'Shea said the case had been before the court seven times and the accused was given every opportunity to engage with the probation service.

It was "a pity" Cox had not seen fit to engage with the service, he said.

"It's not all about her," the judge said, imposing sentence.
