probation report Mum caught with kitchen knife after alcohol-fuelled incident
A MOTHER-of-two had been drinking for most of the day when she was found walking with a kitchen knife on a Dublin street.
Shauna McCallum (31) took the knife out of her waistband and put it on the ground when gardaà arrived at the scene and told her to drop it.
Judge Flann Brennan ordered a probation report, saying he was "concerned for all sorts of reasons".
McCallum, with an address at Main Road, Tallaght, plead- ed guilty to unlawful possess- ion of a weapon.
Dublin District Court heard that last November 17 at 1.30am, gardaà responded to a report that a woman was in possession of a large kitchen knife at Clogher Road, Crumlin.
When they arrived, they saw the accused on the path and noticed the handle of a knife sticking out of her waistband.
They told her to drop the knife and she put it on the ground.
She was intoxicated at the time.
McCallum had no previous convictions.
The incident was "obviously alcohol-fuelled", her solicitor Fergal Boyle said.
There had been an incident in a house where a lot of drink was taken.
The accused was working part-time as a sales assistant and was prepared to make a charity donation to avoid conviction, the solicitor said.
Judge Brennan said he was not excluding this, but wanted to see a probation report first.
