A man who went on the rampage and attacked a takeaway worker, threw a traffic cone through a hotel window and smashed up a car has been jailed for ten months.

Mark McConnell appeared by videolink at a sitting of Buncrana District Court in Co Donegal.

McConnell, aged 27, pleaded guilty to all the charges.

On March 19th, 2018, McConnell threw a brick through the back window of a BMW car at Fortwell in Letterkenny.

When the owner came out of his home, McConnell of Brucklish, Churchill told him to "f*** off."

On May 5th, 2018, gardaí were alerted to an incident at the Station House Hotel in Letterkenny at 12.40am when a passer-by threw a traffic cone through the function room window of the hotel.

The accused also faced another charge of assaulting a takeaway worker at the East Ocean Takeaway at Ramelton Road in Letterkenny on November 1st, 2019.

The employee told how McConnell had punched him in the face and chin with a closed fist and the accused was later seen running away by gardaí.

Solicitor Rory O'Brien told the court that his client was already serving a prison sentence for a serious assault and was not due to be released until 2023.

He said McConnell has had difficulties with various substances since his late teens but had very supportive parents and a partner.

He added that he has done an anger management course and indicated an apology to his victims including the takeaway worker.

He added that McConnell said he had no recollection of any of the events.

The court was told that McConnell had a number of previous convictions for public order, a factor which Judge Alan Mitchell said he had to take into account.
