A MAN has been sent for trial accused of possession of child pornography at his Dublin home.

Georgian Stanescu (36) is alleged to have had images and video contained on electronic devices that were seized by gardaí more than five years ago.

A book of evidence was served on him when he appeared before Dublin District Court.

Judge Bryan Smyth sent him forward for trial to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Mr Stanescu is charged with one count of possession of child pornography at his home at Richmond Road, Fairview, on November 22, 2015.

The charge initially stated this was images defined as being child pornography, retrieved from an electronic device seized from the accused.

State solicitor Clare Barry asked for the charge to be amended to state "images and video" and to specify an HP laptop and a Samsung Galaxy phone.

She said a book of evidence was ready and the DPP was consenting to the accused being sent for trial to the next sittings of the circuit court.

Mr Stanescu had been on bail granted at a garda station and Ms Barry said the terms could continue.

The judge gave the accused the formal warning that he had 14 days to provide any alibi details to the prosecution.

He also ordered that the prosecution provide the defence with copies of the garda interview video.

He granted free legal aid at the request of defence solicitor Brian Doherty.
