A man is due in court this evening in connection with a feud related assault in Longford two weeks ago.

The victim received slash wounds to his leg in the attack in Glebe View in the town on Friday, April 16.

He was targeted by a number of men near his home around 8.30pm that night.

He received lacerations to his leg in the incident and was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

It is suspected the attack was linked to another incident that occurred in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, in March.

The victim posted a video on social media after he was attacked to show he was okay.

A bandage was visible on his leg but he took off his top to show he had no other wounds.

Gardai arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the attack this weekend and he is currently being detained at Longford Garda Station and will appear before Longford District Court at 5pm today.

The attackers are believed to have fled the area in a blue 05 Citroen C5 which was found burnt out between Ballycloghan and Moydow a short time later.

After the attack Gardai said they were also interested in a gold coloured Nissan Almera that was seen in the Moydow area on Friday night.
