The man, aged in his 30s, is due to appear before the Mallow District Court today, February 9.
A man arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a teenage girl on a street in Co Cork has been charged.
The man, aged in his 30s, is due to appear before the Mallow District Court today, February 9.
The incident took place shortly before 1.30pm on Sunday when a girl was approached and assaulted by two men while out walking alone at Chapel Square near Fermoy town centre.
Two other young men intervened when they heard the girl’s screams and the attackers fled when they arrived to help.
The two teens managed to foil the attack but one of them was injured when a bottle was apparently broken over his head by the attacker as the teen tried to defend the young girl.
The girl, who is understood to be from the locality, was taken to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
She was said to be deeply shocked and traumatised by her ordeal and is set to receive counselling support over the incident.
The scene was sealed off for forensic examination on Monday and one of the men was arrested.
He was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Fermoy Garda station.
