Man due in court over €159,400 cannabis seizure in Navan, Co Meath

A man who was arrested at the scene of a drugs raid in Navan has been charged in connection with the seizure and is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin this afternoon.

The 51-year-old suspect had been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Ashbourne Garda station after the seizure of thousands of euro worth of cannabis plants and herb yesterday afternoon.

Members of the Eastern Region Armed Support unit and detectives from Navan operating as part of an intelligence led operation into the sale and supply of drugs in Co Meath, carried out a search under warrant at approximately 3.15pm.

Backing up members of the gardaí attached to the Meath Divisional Drug unit, the detectives located a large growing facility which was ventilated and insulated to grow cannabis.

A total of 143 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €114,400, along with loose cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €45,000 were seized, along with €9,000 in cash.

The man will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, at 1pm this afternoon.
