Man due in court charged over murder of OAP Kwok Ping Cheng in his Dublin home

Pensioner Kwok Ping Cheng (77) was found bludgeoned to death in his Dublin home last Thursday.

Gardai believe the attack was carried out by a suspect in “an intoxicated haze.”

Gardai recovered an axe used in the brutal attack at the scene of the murder and a hammer was located during another search in west Dublin at the weekend.

After studying excellent quality CCTV footage in the case, a suspect aged in his 20’s was arrested in the Dundrum area early yesterday morning and brought to Kevin Street Garda Station where he has been interviewed a number of times by detectives.

He is expected to be brought to the Criminal Courts of Justice complex later today.

Mr Cheng, who was originally from Hong Kong, was found dead in his home in Robinson’s Court off Cork Street in the city centre.

His body was discovered by a care worker who had called to the property

The only suspect in the case has an address in south inner city but is originally from Tallaght.

Gardai believe that he entered the property through an open window but it is unclear if he actually robbed anything from the property.

The victim’s body was found in the sitting room of his home and it is believed he was attacked while watching television sometime after midnight.

Mr Cheng had extensive injuries to his head and upper neck.

Kwok, or George as he was known locally, was found dead, his remains covered in blood, by a care worker who visited his apartment in Robinson’s Court, off Dublin’s Cork Street, on Thursday morning.

Gardaí believed he had been struck in the head and body with an axe and a hammer.

George had a wife and son also living in Ireland, but sources say he had not been in contact with them for a number of years.
