A man is due to appear before Athlone District Court after gardai seized this array of little baggies of suspected heroin in the town last week.

A picture posted on the Garda Síochána Westmeath Facebook page shows a number of little bags with a brown substance in them. Another one appears to have white powder in it.

In the post gardai said that on Wednesday, Gardai from the Westmeath Divisional Drug Unit stopped a man at Magazine Road, Athlone and recovered appropriately €4,000 worth of heroin.

“The man was charged, and will be appearing in Court shortly,” the post states.

In follow-up inquiries, the Garda Press Office confirmed that a man had been arrested and a court hearing will follow.

“Gardaí carried out a search of a male in his 30s on Magazine Road, Athlone shortly before 9pm on Wednesday 27th January 2021,” the Garda statement reads.

“€4,000 worth of heroin (pending analysis) was detected on the male. The male was arrested and has since been charged in relation to this. He is due to appear before Athlone District Court on the 17th February 2021.”
