Head injuries Man charged over serious assault in Cork which left victim in critical condition

Three people were arrested in connection with the incident

A man in his late 20s has been charged in relation to an assault in Cork on Thursday and was due to appear in court this morning.

Gardaí in Mayfield investigating a serious assault on the Lower Glanmire Road that occurred just before 9pm on Thursday, arrested two men and one woman in connection with the incident.

The victim, a man in his mid-40s, was taken to hospital in critical condition after being found on the street with head injuries. Following reports of a disturbance, Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene before he was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

A man in his late 30s was arrested late last night and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Gurranbraher Garda station.

The woman, in her late 20s, was arrested was released without charge last night Friday November 5th, and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The man in his late 20s that was charged in relation to the assault was to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Anglesea Street in Cork this morning.
