A man has appeared before Galway District Court in connection with the seizure of €76,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb.

The man, who is in his forties, had been arrested after gardaí found the cannabis herb alongside more than €7,000 in cash following the search of a house in Galway on Monday.

Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit searched a house in the Newcastle area at approximately 10.30pm.

The raid was carried out as part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris earlier this month.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
