Court appearance Man (20s) charged over stabbing incident at Limerick house

Gardaí have charged a man in connection with a serious assault in Limerick city on Sunday evening. 

He is due to appear before Limerick District Court this morning at 10.30am following the incident at a home on Ellen Street.

Officers were called to a house at around 5.10pm where they found one man injured and another male wielding a knife.

The injured man, who is in his 50s, had been stabbed a number of times and due to an "imminent threat to life", gardai were forced to tackle the assailant and disarm him.

A man in his 20s was arrested and the knife was recovered and seized by gardaí.

The casualty who sustained a number of apparent stab wounds was taken to University Hospital Limerick, where he was treated for serious injuries.

Gardaí issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward following the incident.
