A Kilkenny man has been convicted of animal cruelty and has been banned from owning a horse for five years.

The man was convicted at Kilkenny District Court on Monday following the seizure of a neglected horse on 3rd September 2020.

He was convicted on two counts of animal cruelty and has received a ban from owning horses for a period of five years pursuant to Section 12 of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013.

The owner also received a three-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

The animal was taken to My Lovely Horse Rescue, who has been taking care of it since the incident last autumn.
