A HUSBAND headbutted another man and tried to punch him after the man called his wife a "f**king bitch", a court heard.

Piotr Jez (36) took exception to the way the victim spoke to his wife, his lawyer said.

The assault occurred after Jez's wife opened the passenger door of their car and accidentally banged into another vehicle, causing the injured party to have words with her.

Judge Cephas Power ordered Jez to donate €150 to the LauraLynn Foundation and said he would leave him without a conviction.

The accused, of Hamlet Lane in Balbriggan, admitted assaulting another man at Texaco, Dublin Street in Balbriggan on March 12, 2019.

Garda David Woods told Swords District Court that Jez headbutted the man and tried to punch him a number of times. He also pulled and dragged him by the jumper.

The victim did not suffer any injuries, Gda Woods said, nor did he wish to make a victim impact statement.

The court heard Jez had no previous convictions.

Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said Jez had parked his car and when his wife got out she banged the car door against the car next to her.

"The injured party called her a f**king bitch", Ms D'Arcy said, "and my client completely lost his head."

She said Jez realised his behaviour was unacceptable but he did not like the way his wife had been spoken to.

Ms D'Arcy asked the judge for leniency saying Jez had been worried about this since 2019.
