Hotel guest accused of spraying fire extinguisher over two floors of Dublin hotel

Dwayne Thompson, 30, appeared at the weekend sittings of Dublin District Court and was held in custody pending a €1,000 bail lodgement.

Judge Marie Quirke heard the father of two, with an address at Bush Manor, Belfast, was arrested on the early hours of Saturday at the Spencer Hotel, North Wall Quay, Dublin 1.

Garda Robert Walsh told the court it was alleged Mr Thompson discharged a fire extinguisher all over the first and fifth floor of the hotel and damaged hand sanitisers.

The cost of the damage was €2,500, and Mr Thompson made no reply when charged, the court heard.

Solicitor Emer O'Sullivan said Mr Thompson, who was drunk at the time of the incident, had an altercation with guests in the room next door.

His bank cards were missing, but his partner intended to lodge money.

Judge Quirke remanded him in custody with consent to cash bail. The case resumes on Friday. The judge also said a statement of means has to be provided for his legal aid application.
