The Director of Public Prosecutions has been given more time to prepare a book of evidence for a driver accused of pushing a cyclist off his bicycle and kicking him, a court heard.

Joseph Lawrence (26) allegedly got out of his car and knocked the man to the ground, where he attacked and injured him.

Judge Alan Mitchell adjourned the case to a date next month for the service of the book of evidence.

Mr Lawrence, with an address at a hotel in west Dublin, is charged with assault causing harm to a man at Willsbrook Road, Lucan.

He is facing trial in the circuit court after a judge previously refused jurisdiction to deal with the case in the district court.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan previously alleged the victim was cycling at 4.20pm on June 9, 2020, when he was approached by the accused in a vehicle at traffic lights.

Sgt Callaghan alleged words were exchanged between the men and Mr Lawrence got out of his vehicle and assaulted the cyclist by knocking him off his bike.

"The injured party hit his head and was kicked while he was on the ground," she said.

Defence solicitor Liam Cadogan asked for the matter to be struck out as the book of evidence was not ready.

A State solicitor said the delay was due to an outstanding medical report.

Judge Mitchell said he would not strike out the case, but would mark it time passing and he expected progress on the next date.
