Controversial MEPs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly sue RTÉ

Lawyers for the outspoken politicians filed papers with the High Court on Monday but have yet to reveal what specific programme or comments the cases relate to.

Last month, the duo were two of just 13 MEPs who voted against a European Parliament resolution condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Wallace and Ms Daly said they could not support it because it also stated support for NATO and called for weapons to be sent to Ukraine.

Their stance garnered considerable media coverage.

They are being represented in the cases by solicitor Robert Dore, who previously represented Fr Kevin Reynolds in a defamation action against the broadcaster over the ‘Mission to Prey’ programme. The case was settled in favour of the priest.

When contacted by Sunday World, Mr Dore declined to comment on the specifics of the cases filed by the two politicians.

Neither Mr Wallace nor Ms Daly could be reached for comment.
