A boxer was caught in possession of cocaine at a dance music event in Dublin's 3Arena.

Martin Quinn (34) had €70 of the drug on him when gardaí saw him in a "transaction" and stopped him at the concert by MK, an American DJ.

Dublin District Court heard a number of other people were arrested at the same gig.

Judge Michael Walsh fined Quinn €500 after he pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, and separate charges for a public order offence and failing to appear in court.

Quinn, of Walkinstown Park, Walkinstown, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine.

Dublin District Court heard gardaí were on duty at the 3Arena at 8.30pm on May 5, 2018. They saw the accused "engaged in a transaction" and when they searched him, they found cocaine on him.

A garda said a number of people were arrested at the same event. Quinn did not cause any difficulties.

He also admitted threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour in an incident at Walkinstown Road on April 10 last year. A garda said this involved "the usual verbals".

Quinn had previous convictions for similar offences.

The accused had two children and ordinarily worked as a labourer, his solicitor Niall O'Connor said.

He was also a "quite talented" amateur boxer and was considering turning professional.

Judge Walsh fined him for the breach of the peace and non-appearance in court. The drugs charge was taken into consideration.
