Daylight robbery Cash box stolen after driver threatened with hammer on busy Dublin street
Gardai are appealing for information following a shocking cash-in-transit robbery which took place on a busy street in broad daylight.
A brazen thief snatched a cash box from a driver who was collecting it from a shop on Thomas Street in Dublin's city centre at around 12.45pm.
The CIT driver was returning to his security van when he was approached and threatened by a man armed with a hammer.
The man grabbed the box which contained an undisclosed sum of money before fleeing the scene on a bike.

No-one was hurt in the incident and the empty cash box was found on fire at St. Kevin’s Ave off New Street, Dublin 8, a short time later.
The fire was extinguished and the scene and cash box have been preserved for technical and forensic examination.
A garda spokesperson revealed: "An Garda SÃochána at Kevin Street are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly appealing to motorists who were on Thomas Street or St. Kevin’s Avenue / New Street between 12:30pm and 2:30pm today to check video footage (including dash cam) recorded in the area and make it available to investigators."
