Will Smith: 'Personal counselling has made me a better husband'

Will Smith has become the perfect husband thanks to years of solo spiritual counselling.

The movie star insists the main reason why his marriage to actress Jada Pinkett-Smith is so solid is because he takes time to work on his issues with a professional.

"Everything that you do that's great is gonna be difficult and the most difficult part about a relationship is that it's really not between two people... it's between you and you," he tells news show Access Hollywood.

"What Jada and I have learned is bettering ourselves individually is how you make a relationship work. Individual counselling... You get yourself together and present yourself to your partner in a higher spiritual and emotional state, and you'll be surprised how much better things can go."

Jada and Will have been married since 1997 and they are parents to Jaden, 17, Willow, 15 - Jada is also stepmother to Trey, Will's son from a previous marriage.

Rumours were circulating earlier this year (2015) suggesting the Hollywood A-listers were experiencing a rough patch in their union, but Jada insisted that hearsay couldn't be further from the truth.

"You'd think people would be rooting for you to stay together not to break up, you know?" she sighed to ET Online. "It's actually good news and bad news. The good news is there's nothing else to talk about. This has been the only story. Let's round up the divorce story again!

"Will and I love each other so much, and our family and our relationship is so important."
