Vin Diesel: My life theme was death
Actor Vin Diesel struggled with the fact “death was a huge theme” in his life throughout 2014.
The 48-year-old star’s good friend and colleague Paul Walker died in a car crash on 30 November (13).
Vin and Paul worked alongside each other in many films making up The Fast and the Furious car racing franchise, which saw its debut release in 2001.
After Paul passed away, Vin started filming his new movie The Last Witch Hunter, which worked out to be a very healing process for him.
"Death was a huge theme last year," Vin told The Associated Press. "There was something therapeutic about playing this role after going through (Paul’s death)."
In the upcoming feature, Vin portrays immortal character Kaulder, a witch-hunter who attempts to save New York City from a supernatural plague.
His The Last Witch Hunter’s storyline oddly mirrored what he was going through while grieving the loss of Paul.
"The idea that someone immortal could be so melancholy...2014 was a tough year for me in some ways — a lot of ways," Vin said, choking up. "Playing a character that was masking his sorrow — his loss — was very appropriate for the time, because that's what I was doing in real life with the post-Furious 7."
Paul died while 2015 film Furious 7 was being filmed.
Furious 8 is now in the works and there is talk of Vin directing the picture.
Vin insisted he is unlikely to helm Furious 8, but the star will ensure Paul is honoured when he completes tasks as the film’s producer.
"My mom wants me to direct tomorrow. I'm like, 'Mom, it takes about a year of your life to go and direct. There's so many other movies I got to make’,” Vin shared. “Paul said, 'You know (Furious) 7 could bomb and (Furious) 8 is still guaranteed.' When somebody who is like your brother makes a promise, you feel inclined to want to honour that.”
