Tom Hanks recalls his first thoughts on 'cute' Rita Wilson
Tom Hanks thought wife Rita Wilson was a real cutie when he first laid eyes on her.
The Hollywood couple has been married for 27 years and has two sons together, but Tom admits his wife first caught his eye many years before they tied the knot.
In fact, it was a whole 16 years before their 1988 nuptials when Tom witnessed Rita's guest appearance as a cheerleader on a 1972 episode of classic TV show The Brady Bunch.
"I was actually at a friend of mine's house when it aired and I remember thinking 'that girl's cute,' he told People magazine.
While the couple didn't meet in real life until many years later, they now have what is seen as one of the strongest marriages in Hollywood. It doesn't mean they don't bicker though, with Rita, 59, revealing the rare arguments they do have take place when they are driving somewhere together.
"That is hilarious," Tom, 59, chuckled. "She's actually telling you the truth right now. (When) I am driving, what I always say is, 'Just don't you worry your pretty little head. All you have to do is sit there and ride and I will decide how to get there'."
"It's hilarious," he added, while Rita chimed in, "We have a routine now."
Laughter is clearly the key to their successful marriage, and Rita recently revealed the ability to see the funny side of things together helped her during her breast cancer battle in 2015.
The actress/singer, who received the dire diagnosis in April (15), underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, and admits she relied on Tom to keep her spirits up.
"We actually managed to laugh a lot," she told USA Today.
The star has since revealed she is cancer-free.
