Taylor Swift: My mum is my anxiety therapist
Taylor Swift has lengthy telephone conversations with her mum when she’s struggling from intense anxiety.
The 25-year-old Bad Blood songstress is one of the most famous musicians in the world right now.
And in a new interview with NME, Taylor confessed superstar status can sometimes take a huge toll on her mental health.
“If you let your anxiety get the better of you, like everybody’s waiting for you to really mess up, then you’ll be done,” the singer told the magazine, noting mother Andrea is at hand whenever she needs a pick-me-up. "A lot of the time I call my mum and talk for a really long time, just to remind myself of all the things that are great and that matter.”
Taylor is known for making charitable contributions consistently and she even topped DoSomething.org’s Celebs Gone Good list in 2014.
But her image as a good girl isn’t something she is intentionally crafting.
“It’s not about trying to be perfect,” she insisted. “Not to try and sound like the good witch in The Wizard Of Oz, but I want to do good things with what I have. I don’t think my brain could cook up shocking things for the sake of being shocking.”
Taylor has had her fair share of controversial press in the past, most recently getting into a Twitter feud with rapper Nicki Minaj in July (15) over the MTV Video Music Award nominations.
She also became embroiled in unexpected beef with Kanye West after he interrupted her VMAs speech in 2009 while she accepted the award for Best Female Video.
"I send text messages now. If there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding, I go to someone's management, I get their number and I text them. It's an important lesson for anyone to learn in 2015,” the hitmaker said of how she manages feuds nowadays, noting the drama with Kanye has now completely passed. “Me and Kanye are on such good terms now, six years later. It took a while... But I had to tell Beck this story earlier. I was at dinner with Kanye a week after the Grammys, he stops what he's saying and he goes, ‘What is this song? I need to listen to this every day.’
"I said, ‘It's Beck, it's on an album called Morning Phase, I think you've heard of it…’ We just burst out laughing. And he says, ‘Hey, sometimes I'm wrong.’"
Taylor has toured every year since 2009 and she is currently performing shows on her The 1989 World Tour.
And she believes it’s time for a break soon.
“I think I should take some time off,” Taylor said. “People might need a break from me. I’m going to hang out with friends. Write new music. Maybe not write new music. I don’t know.”
