Stars lined to appear at Hillary Clinton Broadway fundraiser

Stars including Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman are set to appear at a Broadway fundraiser for U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Comedian Billy Crystal is scheduled to host Stronger Together, a fundraising concert for the Democratic Party hopeful, at the St. James Theatre in New York City on 17 October (16).

The event will feature appearances from former Broadway performers including Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Matthew Broderick, Helen Mirren and former Hamilton stars Renee Elise Goldsberry and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who created the stage musical.

They will be joined by Hollywood stars which include Roberts, Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Broderick's wife Sarah Jessica Parker, Sienna Miller and Josh Groban, who makes his Broadway debut in musical Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 from mid-October (16).

Clinton has a wide array of celebrity supporters, with Hathaway backing her for the White House from last year, when she wrote on Twitter: "I was just thinking this morning that it’s going to be especially important to vote in the 2016 election: whoever we elect will likely name three Supreme Court Justices during their term. THREE. It’s a huge responsibility- I like the idea of Hillary making those calls #hillary #supremecourt #weholdthesetruthstobeselfevident."

It isn't clear who will be performing and who will simply make an appearance at the fundraiser, but the event, billed as “a very special evening at the theatre”, is set to feature special duets and collaborations.

Clinton's daughter Chelsea is also due to attend Stronger Together, which benefits the Hillary Victory Fund. Ticket prices range from $45 (£35) to $10,000 (£7,700).
